Dwayne Johnson is an American actor, producer, and semi-retired professional wrestler. He is best known for his time with WWE, where he was billed as The Rock. Johnson has had acting roles in a number of films, including The Mummy Returns, The Scorpion King, The Rundown, Be Cool, Gridiron Gang, and Tooth Fairy. In 2013, he starred in the highly successful film Snitch. In 2014, he starred as Hercules in the eponymous film.

In 2015, he had a leading role in the disaster film San Andreas. Dwayne Douglas Johnson was born on May 2, 1972, in Hayward, California, the son of Ata Johnson (née Maivia; 1936–2008) and former professional wrestler Wayde Douglas Bowles (1944–2008). His maternal grandmother, Lia Maivia, was one of wrestling’s few female promoters, taking over Polynesian Pacific Pro Wrestling after her husband Peter’s death in 1982. His paternal grandfather, “High Chief” Peter Maivia, was also a wrestler.

Although Johnson’s wrestling ability was initially hindered by his large size, he eventually learned the basics from his uncles and went on to become one of the most successful wrestlers in the world. In 1996, Johnson signed with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE), and was promoted as the first third-generation wrestler in the company’s history. He made his WWF debut at Survivor Series that year under his real name, winning a six-man tag team elimination match.
